How long do lash extensions last?
As long as the natural lash under each one. Every extension, or every volume fan, is bonded to a single natural lash, and it stays on until that lash finishes its cycle and sheds. Your lashes are all on different schedules, so a set never falls off in one go. It thins out steadily, a few lashes at a time.
So the useful question is how long a set looks full. Coming back about every two weeks tops it back up. Without fills, it thins out over the following weeks as your natural lashes turn over.
Day 0. Every natural lash carries an extension.
Two weeks. Some lashes have shed with their extensions, and new ones have grown in bare.
The fill. New lashes get extensions, and the set is full and even again.
Why do lash extensions fall out?
Because your natural lashes do, every day. People typically lose and replace 1 to 4 eyelashes a day (Sullivan et al., 2023). Each lash cycles through growth, transition and rest; the growth phase lasts 4 to 10 weeks, and lashes grow about 0.12 to 0.14 mm a day (Aumond and Bitton, 2018).
A full lash cycle takes 4 to 11 months (Aumond and Bitton, 2018), and at any moment some of your lashes are resting, on their way to a natural shed. So some of your extensions are always on their way out, however carefully the set was applied.
Meanwhile new lashes grow in bare, and the extensions that stay move outward as their lashes grow. Two weeks after an appointment, a set is a mix of extensions still in place, gaps where lashes shed, and new lashes with nothing on them yet. A fill brings it back to full and even.

When should I book a fill?
| Since your last visit | What to book | Time |
|---|---|---|
| About two weeks | The refresh, such as Classic Lash Fill (60 min) or Volume Lash Fill (60 min) | 60 minutes |
| Two to three weeks, or more shedding than usual | The longer appointment, such as Hybrid Lash Fill (90 min) or Volume Lash Fill (90 min) | 90 minutes |
| A few gaps between fills | A short fill, such as Classic Lash Fill (30 min), which needs extensions already on | 30 minutes |
| Much longer, or very little left | Call or text Desiree before booking | She suggests the right appointment |

How can I make my lash extensions last longer?
You can't change your lash cycle, but you can stop extensions leaving before their lash does. Our aftercare comes down to five habits:
- Keep your lashes dry for the first 24 hours so the adhesive can fully set.
- Use oil-free cleansers and makeup removers around your eyes; oil breaks down adhesive.
- Brush your lashes gently each morning with a clean spoolie.
- Sleep on your back or side when you can, so the set stays even.
- Keep your fills on the calendar; the timing is in the table above.
Two more: skip mascara, which clumps extensions and needs an oil-based remover, and never pull or pick at them, which can take natural lashes with them. Between fills, wash your lash line daily so the set stays clean as well as full.
A Lash Bath helps too. Desiree's menu describes it like this:

Do some lash styles last longer than others?
Not in how long each extension stays on: we found no study in our library of published research showing volume bonds outlast classic ones, and every style sits on a natural lash that sheds on the same cycle. Volume can look full for longer between fills, because each lash carries a fan and one missing fan blends in. That's the whole story in do volume lashes last longer than classic?.

Quick answers
- How long does a full set of lash extensions last?
- Each extension lasts as long as the natural lash under it, and lashes shed a few at a time every day, so a full set thins out gradually instead of all at once. A refresh about two weeks after your full set keeps it looking full; if it's been two to three weeks, book the longer appointment instead.
- Is it normal to lose lash extensions every day?
- Yes, a few. People typically lose and replace 1 to 4 natural lashes a day (Sullivan et al., 2023), and each extension goes with its lash. Finding a few on your pillow or spoolie is normal. A clear gap, one eye noticeably thinner, or many pieces with no lash at the base is worth a call or text to Desiree.
- How often do I need a lash fill?
- About every two weeks. Desiree's menu recommends a 60‑minute refresh two weeks after your visit, and a 90‑minute appointment if it has been two to three weeks or you've shed more than usual. Much past three weeks, call or text before booking so she can suggest the right appointment.
