Can I take lash extensions off at home?
Please don't. There are only two ways to get extensions off at home, and neither is kind to your eyes: pulling or picking them off, or putting a remover on your lash line yourself. Pulling takes natural lashes with it. A remover is a strong product working right at the edge of your eye, with your eyes closed and no one to see what you can't.
The good news is that you have two easy options instead: book a removal, or let the set grow out on its own and leave it alone while it does. Both are below.
Why can't I just pull them off?
Because each extension, or each volume fan, is bonded to a single natural lash. It stays on until that lash sheds on its own. Pull the extension and the lash comes with it. That's why our aftercare and our removal prep say the same thing: come with your current extensions on, and don't pull or pick them off at home.
Pulled. The natural lash comes out with the extension.
Removed. The bond is broken down, so the extension slides off and your own lash stays.
Grown out. Left alone, each extension leaves when its lash sheds, and a new lash grows in.
Your lashes do let go on their own schedule. Most people lose and replace 1 to 4 natural lashes a day (Sullivan et al., 2023), and a full lash cycle takes 4 to 11 months (Aumond and Bitton, 2018). So a set sheds a little every week whether you touch it or not.
Is it safe to use a lash remover at home?
We'd say no. Removers are made to break down lash adhesive, and that's exactly why they don't belong anywhere they can seep into your eye.
Removal is a careful, eyes-closed job at the lash line, and it belongs in the chair, not in front of a bathroom mirror.

Taking a break from extensions but still want lifted lashes? Desiree's menu says it plainly:
Create a lift and curl to your natural lashes. Lasts 6–8 weeks. From Desiree’s menu: Lash Lift
Our guide to a lash lift or lash extensions compares the two if you're deciding what comes next.
Can I just let my extensions fall out?
Yes, if you're patient. Because each extension leaves with its natural lash, an unfilled set thins out gradually over the lash cycle rather than falling off at once. While it does:
- Keep washing your lash line daily with an oil-free cleanser.
- Brush your lashes gently each morning with a clean spoolie.
- Leave the last few alone; don't pull or pick at them.
- Skip mascara on the leftover extensions.
Don't let hygiene slide while you wait: the leftover extensions still need the same daily clean as a full set. If the grown-out pieces start to bother you, book a removal rather than reaching for them.
