Volume vs. mega volume lashes: what's the difference?

Both put a fan of fine extensions on each natural lash; mega volume takes that technique further. Choose volume if you want anything from a soft fluff to a glamorous look: the full set is $235 for 180 minutes. Choose mega volume for the boldest, darkest, fluffiest line on the menu: $275 for 180 minutes.

What's the difference between volume and mega volume lashes?

The technique is the same; the finish is not. Volume places a fan of several fine extensions on each of your natural lashes. Mega volume is the volume technique taken further, with more and finer fibers in each fan for a bolder, darker line.

That's also why both can look fuller than classic. A classic set can only be as full as your own lash line, because each extension sits on one natural lash, and upper lids typically have 90 to 160 lashes (Aumond and Bitton, 2018). Fans add fullness on every one of them.

Volume. A fan of a few fine extensions on each natural lash.

Mega volume. More, finer fibers in each fan, for a darker, denser line.

One natural lash up close. Volume puts a fan of fine extensions on it; mega volume puts more, finer fibers in each fan.

How does Desiree describe each one?

Her menu is the clearest guide to the difference, so here it is in her own words. Volume is the flexible one:

This service is highly customizable - from a soft fluff to a glamorous look, volume can take you where you want to go! Using a multiple extension to one natural eyelash application technique, we can create a look that is all your own.

Mega volume is the statement:

Mega volume lashes can give you that va va voom look you've been wanting. These eyelash extensions give a bold, dark, fluffy look. Take your look to the next level with this service.

Read together, the menu draws the line by the finish you want, not by a fiber count. Volume can stay airy and soft or build toward glam. Mega volume starts at bold.

Which should I choose?

Picture the finish you want in the mirror, then match it:

  • Fuller than your own lashes, but still soft: volume, kept airy and at a moderate length.
  • Glam for a season, an event or every day: volume, built up toward its glamorous end.
  • Dark, dense and dramatic: mega volume, the boldest look on the menu.
  • Not sure you want fans at all: start with classic, hybrid or volume, which compares all four styles.

Length is a separate choice from fullness. In airflow studies on a model eye, lashes about one-third of the eye's width protected the eye best (Aumond and Bitton, 2018), and a 2023 international report on cosmetics and eye health gives that protective optimum as 0.35 ± 0.15 times the eye's width (Sullivan et al., 2023); longer isn't automatically better. A mega volume set doesn't have to be long to look bold, and a volume set can be long and still soft.

Does mega volume need different upkeep?

The timing is the same. Whatever the style, your natural lashes shed on their own cycle and take their extensions with them. Mega volume has its own matching appointments: Mega Volume Lash Fill (60 min) for the two-week refresh and Mega Volume Lash Fill (90 min) if it's been two to three weeks or you've shed more than usual.

The care is the same too: keep your lashes dry for the first 24 hours, use oil-free cleansers and makeup removers, brush them gently each morning and skip mascara. The full list is in our aftercare guide, and fill timing is in how often to get a lash fill.

Not ready for a full set? The 60‑ and 90‑minute volume and mega volume appointments can be booked without a set already on, for a lighter set on your natural lashes. Either way, Desiree confirms the plan with you at your visit.

Quick answers

Is mega volume heavy on my lashes?
Not when the fans are matched to your lashes. Each fan is made of fine fibers and sits on one natural lash. Extensions longer, thicker, curlier or heavier than a lash can carry strain it and can thin the lash line over time, so Desiree matches the length and fullness to your own lashes. If you'd like something softer, volume can be kept airy.
How much more is mega volume than volume?
On the current menu, the mega volume full set is $275 for 180 minutes, and the volume full set is $235 for 180 minutes. The two-week refresh is $95 for mega volume and $85 for volume. You pay at your visit.
Do I need a full set to try mega volume?
Not necessarily. Desiree's 60‑ and 90‑minute mega volume appointments can be booked without a set already on, for a lighter set on your natural lashes. For the full mega volume look from scratch, book the full set. Switching from another style? Call or text first. A set from another studio gets the fill that fits the time since your last appointment.
