The Lash Diaries · Common questions

What does a lash lift do—and what stays natural?

A lash lift changes the shape of the natural lashes you already have: it curls them upward from the root so more of each lash shows when your eyes are open. It does not add fibers, make lashes grow or create extension-style fullness. Choose it when you like your natural length and want curl; choose extensions when you want added length or density.

What does a lash lift change?

A lift changes direction and curve. Your natural lashes are set upward from the root, which can make the length you already have easier to see. It is not a growth treatment and no extension fibers are attached.

Desiree's menu describes it this way:

Create a lift and curl to your natural lashes. Lasts 6–8 weeks.
From Desiree’s menu: Lash Lift

The visual change is noticeable to clients. In a perception study, respondents said eyelash perming altered their eye image and produced clearer-looking eyes (Lee and Do, 2021). That is a report of perceived appearance—not proof that a lift lengthens lashes or changes how many grow.

Your own lashes. The service starts with the natural lashes already present.

Their curve changes. The same lashes are directed upward from the root, so more of their length can show.

Nothing is added or grown. Extension fibers and new growth are different outcomes, outside a lift's promise.

A lift changes the curve of the lashes already present. Added fibers and new growth are different claims, so they stay outside the promise.

These are extensions: added fibers create length and fullness that a lift alone does not add.

How is a lash lift different from tint and extensions?

  • Lift: changes the curve of your natural lashes. Book Lash Lift for 45 minutes at $60.
  • Tint: changes color, not shape. Lash Tint darkens light lashes.
  • Lift and tint: changes shape and color in a 60 minutes appointment at $75.
  • Extensions: attach fibers when you want more length, fullness or darkness than your own lashes provide.

If your lashes are long but straight, start with our guide to straight lashes: lift or extensions. If color is the deciding point, compare tint, lift and lift-and-tint.

What should I expect before and after a lash lift?

Come with clean lashes and no mascara, eyeliner or eye makeup. Skip oily products around your eyes and do not curl your lashes that day. If you wear contacts, bring your case so you can remove them if that is more comfortable.

Afterward, keep lashes dry and skip steam, saunas and mascara for 24 to 48 hours. Skip the lash curler. Desiree's menu says the lift lasts six to eight weeks; that is the studio's service description, not an individual result promise.

If your lids are puffy, your lash line is red or sore, or you have had a reaction, do not push through the appointment. Contact Desiree first; pain or any change in vision belongs with an eye doctor.

Quick answers

Does a lash lift add fibers or make lashes grow?
No. A lift reshapes the natural lashes already there; it does not attach extension fibers and it is not a growth treatment. The upward curve can make existing length easier to see. If your goal is added length or fullness, compare extensions instead of expecting the lift to create hair that is not present.
Is a lash lift damage-free?
Do not treat “damage-free” as a universal promise. Laboratory research says upward perming can alter curvature and natural drainage behavior (Zhou et al., 2024), but it does not establish how often salon harm occurs. Follow aftercare, tell Desiree about irritation or prior reactions, and postpone the service if the eye area is red, puffy, sore or painful.
What changes when tint is added to a lash lift?
The lift changes shape; the tint changes color. Lash Lift and Tint curls your natural lashes upward and darkens them in one visit. It still does not add extension fibers. Choose the combination when your lashes are both straight and lighter than you want; choose a lift alone when their color already suits you.
When should I plan another lash lift?
Desiree's menu describes a lash lift as lasting six to eight weeks, so use that as a planning window, not an individual result promise. Your lashes do not all grow or shed on one schedule, and the screened research used here does not supply a direct salon-longevity forecast. Ask Desiree what she sees before rebooking.
